Middle East: Conflict and Conflagration

A Christian Looks at Forty

First, we mourn the passing of another musical giant, Jimmy Buffett. Seriously, this is getting to be too much. The Godfather of Island Country (not beach bum soft rock… go to hell NPR), he was both ubiquitous and underappreciated. 
Then Tim and Colton discuss two articles that deal with the de-churching in America. Why are Middle-Aged Americans not going back to church? Is the American over-scheduling, over-achieving way of life leading to churchgoing getting crowded out? Has our agrarian and industrial-age model of church run its course and is in need of a simple replacement? Home church? Maybe. But let’s be honest that home church has downsides too.

Whammy! Part 1

In this first part of a mega episode, Tim talks about the Netflix documentary Wham!, about the 1980's pop sensation Wham! The doc is a fascinating insight into the duo of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley that topped the charts and made young girls swoon in the mid-80s. With it comes important lessons. Tim & Colton discuss:
The ridiculous postmodern fetish to sexualize close, meaningful relationships between friends, particularly males.
Are parents sometimes dream crushers or Daedalus warning Icarus not to fly too high to the sun?
Finally, we discuss George Michael and the inner demons he dealt with. A man who seemed to have everything (and aware of it) was actually a deeply insecure man who struggled to grasp his self-worth. It's a lesson to us to try not to judge what's on the outside and to understand what others are going through on the inside. It'll make us better Jesus followers.

I Left My Liver in San Diego

Tim and Colton take the week off from Christianity and church talk and this will either be the least or most listened to Go To Hell podcast. It’s an indulgent, detailed, marathon of a telling of our Inaugural San Diego Beer Marathon™ where Tim and Colton, joined by our friends Erik and Nolan, visited 18 San Diego breweries in 48 hours.
