The Go To Hell Pod
A couple of guys who discuss Christianity, life, craft beer, and much more. We are unfiltered and dive deep into Jesus-centered Christianity and understand how we as everyday believers are to respond to the things we encounter in our current world.
This week we continue our discussion on whether we would recognize Jesus if he came again as he did before; continuing the pattern of creating “enemies” of God, or Goats and Sheep; the ignored meaning of the Prodigal Son; and do we really believe in the saving grace of the Cross for all? After being tortured by high school students making him listen to Trap music, Colton cleansed himself by listening to Beyoncé’s new country fusion album Cowboy Carter. On it, she changed the lyrics to Dolly Parton’s famous hit Jolene and a lot of people don’t like it (Tim’s wife HATES it). Meanwhile, Tim’s listening to rock greats The Who. Always so good and somewhat underappreciated. That leads to a final discussion on sports warmup music… Thunderstruck, Kickstart My Heart… Please subscribe, rate and review. We had beer shipped directly from Cooperage Brewing Co., one of our favorite breweries in Sonoma County, CA. First, we sample the tasty Inclusion Batch Project Hoppy West Coast Pilsner collaboration with Pink Boots North Bay & Hop Raised. Second, is the Grand Daddy Terp Double Dry Hopped West Coast Double IPA. We finished the night off with the Smelltron 3030 Double IPA, which has some remarkable can art straight out of mid-century sci-fi. Please subscribe, rate and review. We hit a variety of topics. First, many Christians believe topical sermons are shallow if not unbiblical, and only expository sermons (preaching that finds its source, content, and application in the biblical text) are acceptable. But aren't most of the topics in the New Testament Letters to the Early Church topical issues the church is dealing with? Second, what is the role of a pastor? Do we expect too much of them? Finally, how many of us would recognize and accept Jesus if he returned today? Colton is enjoying the feud with Kendrick Lamar and Future taking a rip at Drake at J Cole and J Cole ripping back. Tim’s been listening to a favorite from the 1990s, the alternative band Toad the Wet Sprocket. Please subscribe, rate, and review. This week we drink three beers we brought back from our Pliny Pilgrimage to the Santa Rosa, CA area. First we drink the Henhouse Brewing Co.’s Basso IPA, a West Coast IPA featuring Simcoe, Comet and Citra Hops. The next two are from one of our favorite breweries, Moonlight Brewing Co.’s Dim Lights Smoked Lager and the Delhi By Dinghy Double IPA, one of our favorites. Please subscribe, rate and review. We finally wrap up our discussion on Core Principles of Being a Jesus Follower. An outline of the principles can be found here. But first, we respond to the declaration by pastor and author Steve Lawson that “Jesus isn’t coming to save, he’s coming to slaughter. He isn’t coming to deliver, he’s coming to destroy and damn.” Is that the Gospel you’re familiar with? Because this episode was recorded right after St. Patrick's Day, Colton was listening to a lot of Irish music, Gearoid McCarthy and The Script, in particular. Tim gives a shout out for the 1990’s indie movie The Commitments about an Irish soul band. The movie has a fantastic soundtrack as well. But he’s also been listening to wall-to-tall Pink Floyd, listening to many of their albums over and over. Please subscribe, rate and review. It’s a three-beer week. First, we have the Stone Brewing Co.'s Enjoy By 04.20.24 Hazy IPA. Always a delicious hazy, you have four days before… well we’re never sure what happens if you have it after the by date. Second, is a brewery out of Las Vegas that we know nothing about. That’s Big Dog’s Brewing Co.’s Dirty Dog IPA. Pretty good and not at all mangy. Finally, for the second week in a row we sample something from Bottle Logic Brewing. It’s their Recursion IPA. Oh no, it smells like nelson hops! What is a calling? Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines it as a “strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence”. Christians often talk about a calling or being called to something. Unfortunately, it’s also used too often as a weapon to manipulate others to accept or follow our decision to do something. Are all of us called to do something by God? Does God want us to do something, anywhere, without some dramatic message from the Holy Spirit? Is our calling more often than not just being?
