Beer of the Week - A Cooperage Spread

We had beer shipped directly from Cooperage Brewing Co., one of our favorite breweries in Sonoma County, CA. First, we sample the tasty Inclusion Batch Project Hoppy West Coast Pilsner collaboration with Pink Boots North Bay & Hop Raised. Second, is the Grand Daddy Terp Double Dry Hopped West Coast Double IPA. We finished the night off with the Smelltron 3030 Double IPA, which has some remarkable can art straight out of mid-century sci-fi.

Would You Recognize Jesus Today?

We hit a variety of topics. First, many Christians believe topical sermons are shallow if not unbiblical, and only expository sermons (preaching that finds its source, content, and application in the biblical text) are acceptable. But aren't most of the topics in the New Testament Letters to the Early Church topical issues the church is dealing with? Second, what is the role of a pastor? Do we expect too much of them? Finally, how many of us would recognize and accept Jesus if he returned today?

It’s a three-beer week. First, we have the Stone Brewing Co.'s Enjoy By 04.20.24 Hazy IPA. Always a delicious hazy, you have four days before… well we’re never sure what happens if you have it after the by date. Second, is a brewery out of Las Vegas that we know nothing about. That’s Big Dog’s Brewing Co.’s Dirty Dog IPA. Pretty good and not at all mangy. Finally, for the second week in a row we sample something from Bottle Logic Brewing. It’s their Recursion IPA. Oh no, it smells like nelson hops!

What is a Calling?

What is a calling? Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines it as a “strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence”. Christians often talk about a calling or being called to something. Unfortunately, it’s also used too often as a weapon to manipulate others to accept or follow our decision to do something. Are all of us called to do something by God? Does God want us to do something, anywhere, without some dramatic message from the Holy Spirit? Is our calling more often than not just being?
