A Jesus-centered podcast where STRONG OPINIONS are weakly held about Christianity, pop culture, and beer.
Listen on:
The Go To Hell Pod
A couple of guys who discuss Christianity, life, craft beer, and much more. We are unfiltered and dive deep into Jesus-centered Christianity and understand how we as everyday believers are to respond to the things we encounter in our current world.
NASCAR Pugilism (00:02:32) Beer of the Week: Liquid Gravity Brewing Co's. Mouthin Off West Coast IPA (00:14:38) Music of the Week (00:18:42) Tim is listening to the late country great John Prine. Under the radar of many country music fans, John Prine was quietly one of the unique voices in the genre. His debut album John Prine is #149 on Rolling Stones's Top 500 Albums of all time list. Then take a listen to Bonnie Raitt's cover of his classic “Angel from Montgomery”. Colton has been listening to a variety of jazz and big band, including Louis Prima, as he makes pasta for dinner. What the X (00:25:05) Dr. Kevin M. Young isn’t sure he’s being trolled by the GTHP on X/Twitter. The flood, Pyramids, Stonehenge, and the Nephilum. Colton wants to see what secrets The Vatican has housed deep in the bowels. Beer of the Week: Cooperage Brewing Co. Keg Slayer Double Dry Hopped IPA (01:00:42) Should all knowledge be available and not hidden? What is the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom is now and we as believers are to build Jesus’s Kingdom here and now. That does not mean we should use power, specifically violence, in order to achieve building His Kingdom. Unfortunately, the Church has spent much of its history using violence to build and expand. What was built and expanded was not the Kingdom. Violence is evil. Sometimes it’s a necessary evil but it’s still evil and can’t be justified by manmade theories like Augustine’s just war theory. What the hell is zombie porn? Mother's Day isn’t a happy holiday for everyone and it’s good for us to remember this. (00:01:58) What the X: (00:23:04) Gaslighting a gaslighting ex on Twitter. If you want to call out someone publicly on social media and through mediums like music or videos, don’t lie to yourself and everyone else that the Holy Spirit is leading you. What the X: (00:59:57) Another example of pastors giving terrible counsel, telling women they need to stay with an abusive husband because God hates divorce and will face His wrath. This is not the message of the Gospel. Jesus doesn’t want broken relationships, including divorces, but enslaving spouses to abusive behavior only compounds the sin and hell it is creating. We talk about the various reasons why so many marriages are breaking up in America and what could be done by the Church to turn that around. The Church shouldn’t be focused on the supposed wrath of God towards divorce but instead on trying to create healthy, lasting marriages. Beer of the Week: Crow & Wolf Brewing Co’s III West Coast Double IPA (00:12:30) Stone Brewing Co.'s Growls Like a Tiger Double IPA (00:55:27) Music of the Week: (00:18:27) Tim - CAKE and their album Fashion Nugget. Tracks like "The Distance" and their cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" showcase the band's ability to blend irony with genuine musicality. Cake's offbeat style and quirky charm brought a fresh, unconventional sound to the mid-90s rock scene. Colton: Colton and his wife went to a rodeo and were surprised and disappointed that the rodeo never played Chris LeDoux. So Colton’s been listening to a lot of LeDoux, whose unique blend of rodeo and music, along with his dedication to cowboy culture, has left a lasting mark on country music and Western culture. Beers of the Week Pizza Port Brewing Co. & Ghost Town Brewing Forbidden Beach IPA Collab (00:09:24) Russian River Brewing Co. Pliny the Elder Pliny For President 2024 (00:46:47) Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co.Tioga Mountain Lager (01:33:06) Music of the Week Tim has been enjoying one of his favorite records, Beyond the Missouri Sky (Short Stories), an instrumental jazz album by bassist Charlie Haden and guitarist Pat Metheny. The album is more Americana music than jazz but one a Grammy Award in the jazz category. If you need to listen to something chill, give this album a listen. (00:15:14) Colton gives an update on the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar, Metro Boomin’, Future, etc. civil war. One side lost… big time. (00:00:34) Also, rapper Macklemore has released a track questioning U.S. support for Israel that is some food for thought. (00:12:35) Church went off the rails in the 4th century (00:19:10) Another Pastor has had enough of mixing faith and politics (00:22:48) An update on college campus protests and a reminder that what often is reported in our media is not the truth. We as Christians should keep this in mind and not let our passions betray how we view the world. (00:33:21) Rene Girard and his book Scapegoat (00:44:13) HOLY CHATBOT Virtual AI priest ‘Father Justin’ who believes he’s REAL and can absolve your sins (00:48:39) MAIN TOPIC: We’re enjoying the sports docuseries Welcome to Wrexham featuring actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, who buy Wrexham Football Club hoping to resurrect it and the down-and-out Welsh town that supports it. What does this show say about people leaving the church and providing more stickiness? Maybe (probably) nothing but explore the possibility. Also, the show has an important message about purpose… our purpose as individuals and communities. Several episodes back, Tim & Colton had a discussion about the moral questions about violence and revenge raised in the Japanese manga series Attack on Titan. Tim has since watched the show and has thoughts. They are joined by their buddy Alec to discuss the show and its commentary about humanity's eternal cycle of violence and revenge, scapegoating others and what we are willing to do to others for our friends and family. Even if you don’t like shows like AOT, or have ever watched it, we think you’ll enjoy our discussion on the range of moral dilemmas the show raises. This week we continue our discussion on whether we would recognize Jesus if he came again as he did before; continuing the pattern of creating “enemies” of God, or Goats and Sheep; the ignored meaning of the Prodigal Son; and do we really believe in the saving grace of the Cross for all? After being tortured by high school students making him listen to Trap music, Colton cleansed himself by listening to Beyoncé’s new country fusion album Cowboy Carter. On it, she changed the lyrics to Dolly Parton’s famous hit Jolene and a lot of people don’t like it (Tim’s wife HATES it). Meanwhile, Tim’s listening to rock greats The Who. Always so good and somewhat underappreciated. That leads to a final discussion on sports warmup music… Thunderstruck, Kickstart My Heart… Please subscribe, rate and review.
